a nice reminder

I was in Florence the last couple of days going through the seemingly unending list of immigration paperwork, bureaucracy, and house updates. Julian sent me this photo of the lot from yesterday at sunset. The wheat glowing green above the glistening lake.

He said it's to be a nice reminder of the long play, the dream, and the reason for all of this. Even on those days that the paperwork just seems like the main star, and any pleasurable visions that may pop up in my mind seem still like a far-off, unreal dream.

But the land remains. It's always been here.
Throughout the centuries of civilizations from Etruscan to Roman.
It's in no hurry.
It produced crops
while Italy became unified and set up a new nation.
Seasons came and went while families near by moved in, moved out, had babies, lost loved-ones.
It still sits there now, admiring the sunsets.
Letting the wheat blow in the unseasonably-late il Grecale winds which have led to winter very much overstaying it's welcome this year. While I go about checking off my daily to-do lists.

And it waits.
